Michael McMahon

Michael has worked as a counsellor since 1975. He has Baccalaureates in Philosophy and Divinity plus a graduate degree in Social Work. Michael has specialized in Child and Family counselling, working in community agencies concerned with children’s issues. He has been employed as a Department of Families field officer and was one of the original staff in that department's crisis response service (CRISIS CARE) when it was established in 1978. Between 1981-1982 he was the Mater Children’s Hospital's first Social Worker engaged specifically to provide child protection consultation on that hospital's SCAN team.

Michael subsequently worked in the Brisbane Registry of the Family Court for ten years. He has worked as a counsellor for the Vietnam Veterans Counselling Service for approximately twelve years and has developed significant skills in identifying and treating clinical trauma. He currently works part-time for the Vietnam Veterans Counselling Service and has a private practice providing Family Reports and Social Assessments. He is a member of the Australian Association of Social Workers.
